Valérie Duchateau a grandi à Céret., près de la frontière espagnole. A neuf ans, son premier professeur, Angel Iglesias, l’emmène à Barcelone où elle joue sur les guitares de Paganini
Elle passe par le Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris où elle obtient un Premier Prix avant de séduire les Etats-Unis où elle reçoit le premier Prix de la Fondation d’Addario de New-York.
Son premier album "America" , est enregistré à Nashville en 1995, sous la direction de Thom Bresh, le fils du célèbre Merle Merle Travis.
En 1998, Valérie Duchateau se met à la composition et signe la musique de plusieurs émissions de télévision dont notamment
« Envoyé Spécial ».
Après un passge comme première soliste à l'Opéra de Paris, elle rend successivement hommage à Barbara ("La Guitare Chante Barbara") et Django Reinhardt ("Parfum de Django") tout en initiant la série "Les Chefs d'oeuvre de la Guitare Classique" qui compte aujourd'hui 6 volumes vendus à plus de 60.000 exemplaires.
Pionnière de la mise en ligne de ses albums sur les plateformes légales de téléchargement (Deezer, Spotify, MusicMe...) elle a, à ce jour vendu plusieurs milllions de titres par ce canal.
Toujours aussi curieuse, elle continue son expérience en lançant un magazine consacré à la guitare acoustique (Guitarist Acoustic) puis en prenant en mains le magazine Guitare Classique.
Aujourd’hui, 13 albums plus tard, Valérie Duchateau est une artiste accomplie aussi bien dans sa démarche pédagogique que dans son interprétation, ses arrangements ou ses compositions dans le domaine de la guitare classique.
Valérie Duchâteau grew up in Céret, a small town located in the south of France and impregnated with a lot of culture as Picasso or Braque also stayed there before becoming famous. The geographical situation of Céret, at a few miles from Spain, will really help her concerning the choice of her musical instrument and so she will choose to play the guitar very naturally.
She learnt at the “Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris”, where she got a first prize before appealing to the United States. There she got the first prize of the “Fondation d’Addario”. After a long tour through this country with David Leisner, she flew to Japan where she played with Minoru Inagaki.
Coming back from one of her journeys, she met Marcel Dadi with whom she often shared the stage. If she only was a classical guitarist until this period, she discovered then country music, picking. One more time, she played with the greatest artists like Chet Atkins, Larry Corryel or also Nato Lima..
In Nashville, where she felt a little at home, Tom Bresh managed her first album “America”.
Then she found her classical musical universe for two years again, at the “Opéra de Paris”, where the conductor James Conlo wanted her as a soloist guitarist at his side.
She also paid a tribute to the great Django Reinhardt withe the album « Perfume of Django », 12 original transcriptions of the Gipsy Master,.
She continued her experience with press by starting a magazine devoted to the acoustic guitar, « Guitarist Acoustic » and an other magazine devoted to the classical guitar, « Guitare Classique ».
Today, Valérie Duchâteau is an artist and and accomplished lady who was able to find a new way in the classical guitar genre, as well in her educational work as in her performance, her arrangements or compositions.
