Lágrima by Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909) By Valérie Duchâteau – www.valerieduchateau.com Do we still need to introduce Francisco Tárrega, as his contribution to the repertoire and the evolution of the instrument was essential for the rise of the guitar in the 20th century? A renowned teacher, his students were Miguel Llobet and Emilio Pujol who, in their own way, perpetuated his legacy. It was in a moment of nostalgia, during a London tour in 1881, that Tárrega is said to have composed Lágrima, thinking of his country and the woman he loved, who remained in Spain. Remember to hit the melody with your ring finger and to lighten the open B notes placed on the offbeats. The principle remains the same throughout.
