Adiós muchachos p. 62 Carlos Gardel (1890-1935) Transcription by Roland Dyens By Valérie Duchâteau www.valerieduchateau.com Adiós muchachos (translation: "Goodbye friends") was composed in 1927 by the Argentinian Julio César Sanders. There have been many adaptations and covers of this music on the North American continent during the great era of crooners. A true anthem of tango culture, the Toulouse-born Carlos Gardel incorporated this piece into his repertoire to the point of becoming one of its charismatic performers. The version offered here was transcribed by Roland Dyens. It is full of writing details and interpretation tips as the composer is accustomed to. In A major and at a lively tempo, this tango is quite difficult if you want to follow the instructions as closely as possible. The influence of Satie seems to have permeated Roland Dyens in his evocative indications such as: "smile" (bar 13), "light up" (bar 17) or "pour a tear" (bar 20). The pleasure you will feel in playing this demanding piece will be worth your investment.
