Saltarello by Vincenzo Galilei (1520-1591) By Estelle Bertrand The saltarello is a Neapolitan dance that appeared in the 14th century, whose dance steps contained many jumps. In three beats, at a fast tempo, our Saltarello requires good technique to be played at a dancing speed. Focus your attention on the thumb of the right hand, whose gesture consists of playing the low strings continuously. Pay particular attention to the ties in the left hand, especially the one performed with the little finger and the middle finger (E-D on the 2nd string). Lower the 6th string from E to D.
