Bourrée II BWV 1009 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) By Estelle Bertrand Bach's music has always been adapted for instrumentalists keen to get to grips with these gems of Baroque music. Bach himself had already adapted some of his works such as the Lute Suite BWV1006 from the Violin Partita BWV1006. This Bourrée II, in C minor, is taken from the 3rd Cello Suite BWV1009. It follows Bourrée I which is in major mode. The guitar transcription that we are offering you is in A minor. The lower voice was invented in order to enrich the musical discourse and play on the polyphonic possibilities of the instrument. The lightness of the musical discourse combined with good voice control will be the key to a successful interpretation. To do this, do not hesitate to play each voice separately before superimposing them. It is also possible to sing one while playing the other on the guitar. This exercise has the merit of being effective in becoming fully aware of polyphonic lines.
